C.) mooi bruin.

Low budget cooking: foodblog event july 2009
One of the recipes my family enjoys very much is this potatoe cabbage pie. It's easy to make and you can even make it an evening ahead. The ingredients are cheap and the recipe is healthy and nutritious. A spoon full of piccalilly makes it complete.

Potato cabbage pie with minced meat
400 gr. shredded white cabbage
1 cube chickenstock
500 gr. minced meat (beef)
1 diced onion
pepper, salt
1 teaspoon curry powder
1000 gr. potatoes, peeled
milk
a lump of butter

Cokk the cabbage in 5 minutes in a bit of water with the chickenstock. In the meantime: bake the onion and the minced meat till the meat starts to brown. Add the currypowder and season with pepper and salt. Cook the potatoes, season them wilt salt and pepper. Make a smooth mashed potatoes with the use of milk and butter.

Take a big ovenproof dish and butter it. Make three layers in it starting with the minced meat, followed by the cabbage and the mashed potatoes. Take care the surface is covered very well with the mashed potatoes and devide some butter flakes over it.

Bake the pie golden brown in the oven (390 dgr. F.). Enjoy this meal; there is enough to share.

I like the sound of this, especially the layering. We can always use meals that don't break the bank.
